Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 / annual
Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform connecting people with Taskers for home services like furniture assembly, handyman work, and moving help. The Architecture Team drives platform modernization efforts, and as a Software Architect, you'll serve as an embedded representative guiding engineering teams toward the Target State Architecture (TSA).
This is a hands-on, results-oriented role where you'll partner directly with engineering teams across the platform to accelerate modernization work. You'll operate as a subject matter expert on platform modernization within a small architect team, applying AI-assisted and Spec-Driven Development (SDD) practices to help teams build new components using the TSA technology stack.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the Architecture team's representative to assigned engineering teams, driving platform modernization projects aligned with TSA
- Applying AI tooling and Spec-Driven Development practices to help teams modernize their platform components
- Pairing directly with engineers and technical leadership to unblock modernization work and transfer architectural patterns into team practice
- Serving as a subject matter expert on platform modernization, advising on migration approach, sequencing, and risk
- Advocating for TSA-aligned solutions in technical discussions with engineering leads and stakeholders
- Collaborating with a small architect team to maintain consistency across modernization efforts platform-wide
- Writing and reviewing Technical Design Documents (TDDs) and RFCs, coaching authors to strengthen proposals
- Defining standards for tooling, coding, processes, AI usage, and documentation strategies that make modernization repeatable
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, primarily building and scaling backend systems
- Demonstrated experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture
- TypeScript/Node.js experience preferred; strong background in Java, .NET, or similar strongly typed languages also considered
- Experience with containerization and containerized application deployment
- Enthusiasm for AI tooling and AI-assisted development practices with proven professional application
- Excellent communication skills with ability to build consensus and keep technical discussions productive
- Willingness to lead, speak up, and be visible in Architecture and team design meetings
- Comfort pairing directly with engineers and technical leadership
Bonus experience includes Kubernetes, NestJS, Helm charts, Spec-Driven Development tools (SpecKit, OpenSpec, Intent, Kiro), ArgoCD, Datadog, and contract-first design using OpenAPI and AsyncAPI.
The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days in office at the San Francisco hub (130 Sutter St) every Tuesday and Wednesday.
