Okta's Workforce Identity Cloud Security Engineering group is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer II to design, develop, and maintain security solutions that harden the company's cloud infrastructure. This role bridges Security and Engineering organizations, focusing on building technical leverage and influencing the security roadmap for large-scale, critical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include designing and running Okta's production infrastructure with a security-first mindset; responding to and preventing production incidents; triaging and troubleshooting complex issues; automating manual processes; evolving monitoring tools and platforms; promoting best practices for scalable and reliable services; maintaining technical documentation and runbooks; and participating in a 12x7 on-call rotation. You will act as a technical subject matter expert for infrastructure design, focusing on security at scale across cloud environments.
Ideal candidates have 2+ years architecting and running complex AWS or other cloud networking infrastructure; 2+ years with Chef and Terraform; deep knowledge of CI/CD, Linux, OS hardening, networking, and IP protocols; expert-level abilities in operational languages (Ruby, Python, Go, shell); experience with industry-standard security tools (Nessus, Qualys, OSQuery, Splunk); and familiarity with PKI and secrets management. Bonus experience includes threat assessments, high-availability vulnerability assessment, MySQL replication/clustering, and data stores like DynamoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
You are passionate about encouraging peer development, willing to go the extra mile solving problems, and have strong Linux understanding and security background. A BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required.
