xAI is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to own campus-scale reliability for its Memphis/Southaven data center infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of compute, network, storage, power, and cooling systems—serving as the connective tissue that ensures the reliability of xAI's AI infrastructure. You will design and own the monitoring architecture that the organization trusts, including alert strategy, signal quality, and suppression logic. You'll provide technical incident command during SEVs (Severity 1 events), leading cross-discipline teams through complex outages. You'll run blameless postmortems, drive corrective actions to closure, and build playbooks that enable a 24/7 NOC to operate confidently. Key responsibilities include defining error budgets and availability objectives at campus and service boundaries, leading cross-functional reliability projects that span software and facility domains, maintaining runbook quality, running game days, and participating in on-call rotations for critical incidents. You'll need 5+ years in site reliability, systems engineering, or large-scale production operations—ideally in high-performance computing or data center environments. You must have proven incident command experience, demonstrated expertise in fleet-scale monitoring and observability design, and hands-on knowledge of at least two infrastructure domains (compute, network, storage, power, cooling). Scripting proficiency (Python, Bash) and systems-language experience (C, C++, Go, Rust, etc.) are required. Preferred experience includes AI/ML infrastructure or supercomputing, SLO/SLI definition and use, game-day execution, data center hardware telemetry, and work in fast-paced tech startups. xAI operates with a flat structure; all employees are expected to be hands-on, communicate clearly, and drive excellence through initiative.
