As a Simulation Engineer on the Physical Products team, you will build and maintain high-fidelity modeling and simulation environments that enable the company to understand how autonomous platforms will behave aerodynamically, structurally, and operationally before they are built and after they fly. You will work closely with guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) engineers, mechanical engineers, and systems engineers to define simulation requirements, validate models against real test and flight data, and ensure models meet the same rigor standards as hardware.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining high-fidelity simulation environments including 6-DOF vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, structural, and engagement-level models
- Developing Monte Carlo and sensitivity analysis capabilities to explore performance across real-world operating conditions, not just nominal cases
- Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to define what needs modeling, at what fidelity, and why—ensuring simulation effort traces back to real design or operational questions
- Validating models against test and flight data, maintaining transparency about model trustworthiness and limitations
- Supporting design trade studies across vehicle configuration, control authority, engagement geometry, and structural loading
- Building tooling and infrastructure to make simulation faster and more accessible across engineering teams (combining physics and software engineering)
- Supporting flight and ground test campaigns by defining instrumentation and measurement strategies for model validation
- Communicating simulation results and their limitations clearly to engineers and decision-makers
