Heart Aerospace is developing the ES-30, a regional hybrid-electric airplane with 30-passenger capacity, 200 km electric zero-emission range, and 400 km extended hybrid range. The company is targeting type certification by the end of the decade.
As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer on the Flight Software Team, you will own all aspects of aircraft software development. You'll interface with cross-functional engineers to develop and understand requirements, architect and write high-quality code, build tests and test infrastructure, create documentation, and provide support throughout the software lifecycle. You report to the Manager of Flight Software and collaborate with a multi-functional team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating highly reliable embedded software that controls critical aircraft systems
- Working with interdisciplinary teams to design and build hybrid-electric aircraft capabilities, including engine controllers, battery management systems, flight control actuators, flight control systems, and aircraft data networks
- Developing tools for test execution across multiple environments, from high-fidelity simulated software to full-scale test stands
- Inventing systems that enable frequent and reliable software deployment, test execution, and data analysis as part of continuous integration and release pipelines
- Mentoring junior engineers and establishing best practices for the team
Every engineer on the team lays the technological foundation for aircraft software and supporting systems, implementing aircraft control functions on embedded systems, developing aircraft models and simulation tools, implementing critical fault tolerance mechanisms, and building hardware and software test systems.
For Senior level: Bachelor's or above in computer science, electrical engineering, or similar discipline; 5+ years professional experience writing safety-critical code for vehicles or similar applications; excellent English communication skills; passion for aircraft and Heart's mission.
For Staff level: 8+ years professional experience writing safety-critical code for vehicles or similar applications; excellent English communication skills.
Ideal candidates have significant experience writing software in Rust, Python, C, C++, or similar systems languages; experience writing code for embedded environments (microcontrollers, bare metal, RTOS, embedded OS); and experience modeling cyber-physical systems (6 DoF simulators, Monte Carlo, battery pack models).
