Axion is a manufacturing quality intelligence platform backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, Amplo, Boeing, and RTX Ventures. The company uses AI to help industrial, aerospace, consumer, and medtech manufacturers identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues at scale. You'll own the technical architecture for Axion's data ingestion system—the critical foundation that brings customer data into the platform. This is a senior individual contributor role with direct architectural ownership and significant product impact. Everything downstream depends on the integrity of data ingestion, making this a high-leverage position. Key responsibilities include: - Architect and own the end-to-end data ingestion pipeline: ingestion, schema mapping, validation, transformation, and orchestration - Build and harden backend services and cloud infrastructure (Python, Postgres, Kubernetes) to make onboarding new manufacturers fast, repeatable, and observable - Solve real-world integration challenges with enterprise warranty, telematics, ERP, and service systems that have inconsistent schemas and unreliable delivery - Establish rigorous data quality and reliability standards with validation, lineage, monitoring, and alerting - Partner with Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams to shape the technical vision and roadmap - Raise engineering standards through code review, design docs, and technical direction - Mentor engineers on data architecture and system design You'll need 5+ years of backend software engineering with deep, recent Python fluency. Strong cloud architecture experience with Kubernetes and containerized workloads is essential. You should have demonstrated depth with Postgres, relational data modeling, performance tuning, and schema design under production load. A track record of solving genuine data integration problems—heterogeneous sources, messy real-world inputs—is required. You're pragmatic about tools, believe in a "Data First" philosophy, and can balance shipping MVPs with production-grade systems. Technical mentorship experience is important; you make engineers around you better without needing formal authority. Axion operates in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment. The team values collaboration, direct communication, and rapid iteration. You'll work in a highly connected environment with frequent feedback loops and open decision-making. The culture respects boundaries but acknowledges that hard problems sometimes require intensity.
