ICEYE, the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space, is seeking a Senior/Staff Platform Observability Engineer to own and evolve the observability foundation across their engineering organization. This is a permanent hybrid role based in Espoo, Finland, within the Platform & Release Engineering department. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a unified, production-grade observability stack covering metrics, logs, and traces—giving every team a consistent, self-service way to understand and operate the health of their services. Your core responsibilities include owning the observability platform end-to-end, defining and driving adoption of instrumentation standards (metric naming, label cardinality, structured logging, distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry), and building trusted alerting by tuning alerts against clear SLOs/SLIs to reduce noise and ensure real issues surface early. You'll enable product teams to diagnose and resolve incidents faster through well-designed dashboards, runbooks, hands-on support, and practical observability guidance. You'll run the observability platform like a product, owning its roadmap, interfaces, reliability, scalability, and cost across areas such as retention, sampling, and cardinality. Additionally, you'll provide clear technical direction for observability across the engineering organization, making pragmatic architectural trade-offs and helping teams adopt platform capabilities effectively. Required qualifications include 6+ years in Platform Engineering, Observability, or infrastructure roles with end-to-end ownership of a production observability stack at scale (e.g., LGTM stack or equivalent). You must have deep expertise in instrumentation and telemetry, including OpenTelemetry adoption, metric and label design, structured logging, and distributed tracing across complex multi-team systems. Strong software engineering foundation with proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Go, etc.) for automation and tooling is essential. You should have demonstrated experience owning long-term consequences of architectural and tooling decisions, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Nice-to-have qualifications include experience with Rancher, Istio, and Kubernetes-native observability patterns; bridging hybrid environments across AWS and on-prem platforms; managing cost and cardinality on large-scale telemetry pipelines; defining SLO/SLI frameworks or observability standards adopted across multiple teams; running incident response and blameless postmortem processes; and background in regulated, security-sensitive, or mission-critical domains. ICEYE operates globally with over 1,000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The role is subject to applicable security screening.
