Endurance Energy is building modular subsea geothermal power plants that convert thermal resources beneath the ocean into baseload power. The company is backed by top-tier VCs including Founders Fund, Felicis, First Round Capital, and Point72, with a founding team from SpaceX, Helion, Blue Origin, and Apple. They have completed multiple deep-ocean deployments and are launching a long-term demonstration project.
As a Senior Turbomachinery Engineer, you will be the critical technical lead responsible for the core of the seafloor power plants. You will own the design, analysis, and optimization of high-performance turbines and pumps specialized for compact power cycles, taking designs from initial 1D sizing through production testing in subsea deployments.
Key responsibilities include: leading aero-thermal design and optimization of turbines and pumps; conducting rapid iteration using 1D/2D modeling for sizing and trade studies; performing high-fidelity 3D CFD analysis and structural FEA; leading test campaigns to validate performance and correlate models with experimental data; integrating rotors, housings, bearings, and seals into field-ready assemblies; and establishing internal modeling processes and design standards to enable team scaling.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (Master's or PhD preferred); 3+ years designing, analyzing, and testing high-speed rotating machinery (pumps, compressors, turbines); strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer; CAD experience (Siemens NX); ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
Preferred qualifications include turbomachinery design tools (AxStream, CFTurbo), CFD proficiency (ANSYS CFX/Fluent, OpenFOAM, Numeca), experience with supercritical CO2 or ORC turbomachinery, high-pressure seal design knowledge, hands-on test rig experience, and programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C++).
Compensation includes competitive base salary and generous equity packages. Benefits include health/dental/vision insurance, flexible PTO with 12 paid holidays, global fieldwork travel to deployment sites (Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Azores), participation in sea trials, company-sponsored dive certification, and access to company boat with free meals.
