Portal Space Systems is seeking a Senior Vehicle Test Engineer to own integrated planning and execution of spacecraft vehicle-level verification. This role is critical to the company's mission of expanding humanity's freedom of movement in space through advanced orbital spacecraft.
The engineer will develop and maintain the integrated vehicle verification and test strategy from early design through flight readiness. Key responsibilities include owning the vehicle verification matrix and Verification Control Document, defining verification artifacts for each requirement, and planning all vehicle-level tests including functional, environmental, interface, deployment, propulsion, mass-properties, and mission-readiness testing.
The role requires leading subject-matter experts in defining test objectives, success criteria, instrumentation, and procedure steps. The engineer will author integrated test procedures, lead Test Readiness Reviews, and coordinate test execution across Systems Engineering, Integration and Test, avionics, flight software, GNC, power, propulsion, thermal, structures, facilities, quality, and safety teams.
Additional responsibilities include defining facility, instrumentation, tooling, and ground-support equipment (GSE) requirements; ensuring GSE architecture meets vehicle-test needs; establishing data custody and traceability protocols; producing integrated test reports and verification-completion status; and capturing lessons learned to improve processes.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of spacecraft integration, spacecraft test, aerospace systems engineering, or closely related vehicle-level test experience. Preferred qualifications include leading spacecraft vehicle-level qualification or acceptance test campaigns, experience with design for test and Test Readiness Reviews, GSE design or delivery experience, spacecraft handling operations, multidisciplinary test coordination, and familiarity with test-data systems, instrumentation, and verification databases.
