Atoms is building Physical AI—autonomous robots for real-world industries including food production, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, and manufacturing to deploy intelligent systems at scale.
As Senior Vehicle Integration Engineer, you will own the complete vehicle bring-up lifecycle: from mechanical completion through first autonomous engagement to fleet deployment. You will establish the calibration methods, test infrastructure, and acceptance criteria that transform vehicle integration from a manual engineering process into a repeatable, production-ready workflow.
Key responsibilities include:
• Vehicle Bring-Up: Manage the end-to-end sequence—power-on, firmware/software load, device enumeration, systems validation, autonomous engagement validation, and fleet release sign-off.
• Sensor Calibration: Own intrinsic and extrinsic calibration across lidar, radar, camera, IMU, and GNSS. Define calibration standards, verification methods, and early-detection protocols for drift or errors.
• Test Plans & Validation: Author and execute comprehensive test procedures, analyze fleet validation data, and communicate results clearly to stakeholders.
• Cross-Domain Diagnosis: Resolve ambiguous failures spanning mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software domains, providing reproduction steps and evidence to owning engineers.
• Test Hardware & Tooling: Specify, build, and maintain benches, harness breakouts, and diagnostic tools required for the process.
• Design Feedback: Communicate learnings back to hardware design teams regarding sensor mounting, tolerance stack-ups, and manufacturability.
• Technician Partnership: Work closely with engineering technicians as customers executing builds and bring-up.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience). 3+ years integrating, validating, and debugging electrical/electromechanical systems on prototype and production vehicles in autonomous vehicles, EVs, or automotive OEM/supplier roles. Deep expertise in vehicle E/E architecture, automotive networks (CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet), diagnostics tooling (Vector CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), vehicle actuation interfaces (steering, braking, propulsion), and compute integration (carrier boards, high-speed signaling, power sequencing, thermal management). Strong ability to navigate ambiguity, self-direct problem-solving, and communicate technical trade-offs. Must be able to work onsite five days per week in San Francisco, travel to test/deployment sites, and maintain a valid driver's license with clean driving record.
