Impulse Space is seeking a Senior Turbomachinery Engineer to design, analyze, build, and test high-performance turbomachinery for advanced liquid rocket engines. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge propulsion technology in a fast-paced, agile team environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design turbomachinery components for high-performance liquid rocket engines
- Perform 1-D sizing and detailed flowpath design for liquid inducers, stators, and impellers, as well as hot gas turbine rotors and stators
- Design secondary fluid flowpaths for bearings, seals, and coolant paths
- Conduct detailed structural analysis of turbomachinery components using CAD and analysis software
- Collaborate with design and build teams to ensure hardware is highly manufacturable, cost-effective, and reliable
- Partner with build and test teams to ensure successful turbopump manufacturing and testing
- Take project ownership and contribute to a small, collaborative team
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
- 5+ years of relevant turbomachinery experience
- Strong proficiency in fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, and materials
- Demonstrated experience with fluids and structural analysis software (CFD, FEA)
- Proficiency with CAD tools for hardware design
- Knowledge of turbomachinery design and analysis best practices
- Understanding of turbopump assembly procedures, including rotor balancing, interference fits, and clearance checks
- Proven ability to take ownership and work effectively in small teams
