Antares is building mass-producible, inherently safe, deployable microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications. The company has raised over $600M in venture capital and holds hundreds of millions in contracts with military services, NASA, and the Department of Energy. The team includes veterans from SpaceX, the White House, the Pentagon, the Department of Energy, MIT, and national laboratories. As a Senior Thermal Fluids Analyst, you will be responsible for building and running thermal-fluids models of components and subsystems throughout the reactor core and power conversion system. Your work will ensure designs meet thermal, mechanical, operational, and performance requirements in extreme environments. Design engineers will rely on your modeling expertise for iterative design feedback and optimization while maintaining rapid development pace and design-for-manufacturing best practices. Key responsibilities include: - Assessing subcomponent designs for pressure drop, heat transfer capabilities, and performance characteristics using hand calculations, in-house tools, and CFD - Collaborating with designers and responsible engineers to provide guidance on initial sizing, material selection, and design feedback - Compiling detailed documentation of analytical results and communicating findings to internal and external stakeholders - Supporting test engineers through collaborative test design, instrumentation selection, and data review to validate models - Developing internal tools and calculators to enable other engineers to perform independent analytical assessments - Providing technical mentorship and guidance to other engineers across teams You will work closely with testing and analysis teams, often providing technical support before, during, and after test campaigns, including cooperative planning, root cause analysis, and model validation. The role is based in Torrance, CA at a 322,000 square-foot facility featuring collaborative spaces, R&D, and production capabilities with easy freeway access. REQUIREMENTS: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar technical discipline - 5+ years of experience performing thermal-fluid analysis - Experience building and running CFD models using commercial codes (Fluent, CFX, Star-CCM+), including conjugate heat transfer models and compressible equations of state - Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software for design modification and model defeaturing (Siemens NX or similar) - Experience in Python, MATLAB, VBA, or other scripting languages to build and maintain tools and calculators - U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee, or asylee status (ITAR requirement) Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or similar technical discipline - Familiarity with 1-D fluid network tools (Flownex, Sinda-Fluint, RELAP5) - Participation in regulatory qualification or certification programs for safety-critical systems in aerospace or nuclear industry - Understanding and implementation of numerical methods for fluid-dynamic and thermodynamic systems - Experience with multiphase fluid and heat transport systems (heat pipes, Rankine cycle engines, saturated cryogenic storage) - Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III Division 5 - Experience building and running Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models - Comfort in fast-paced environments with rapid design iteration loops Additional Requirements: - Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones
