Voyager Technologies is seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer to design, build, test, and operate thermal control systems for spacecraft, including lunar landers and surface power systems. This role is part of the Voyager Lunar Systems program and reports to the Propulsion and Thermal Systems Manager within the Engineering Department in Pittsburgh, PA. Key responsibilities include leading the design, integration, testing, and operation of thermal control systems for spacecraft, lunar landers, rovers, and other space systems. You will create conceptual and detailed designs accounting for orbital trajectories, mission operations, and lander architecture. The role involves building and running thermal models to guide mission operations and inform system design. You will manage supplier relationships, including developing component specifications, reviewing manufacturing processes, and verifying requirements through testing and analysis. Coordination with program management, systems engineering, and other subsystems is essential to assess requirements, design progress, schedule, and risks. Additional responsibilities include creating integration instructions for cleanroom assembly, writing test plans for TVAC (thermal vacuum chamber) testing at component and system levels, and developing mission operations procedures with real-time support. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or similar Engineering with 8 years of spacecraft thermal systems experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of related experience. You must have knowledge of spacecraft thermal system architecture, standards, best practices, components, and suppliers. Experience designing or analyzing thermal control components (heaters, sensors, radiators, multi-layer insulation, coatings, heat pipes) is essential. You should have experience with specification, vendor management, and requirements verification for thermal components, and proficiency with fluid-thermal design software (Thermal Desktop, Ansys Thermal, or Amesim preferred). TVAC testing experience including test plans, operations, and data processing is required, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include experience designing and testing active thermal control systems using pumped fluid loops, proven ability to take concepts from initial idea to final product, proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and lifecycle management tools, and systems engineering experience navigating complex subsystem interactions. The role requires occasional travel with periodic on-site support stays up to one week, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and ITAR access.
