Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Thermal Analysis Engineer to join the Test and Analysis team in Lexington, MA. This role is central to ensuring that emerging defense and aerospace products are validated for harsh operational environments across air, land, sea, and space domains.
You will own thermal design and analysis across hardware development programs, from conceptualization through production. Your responsibilities include executing first-order thermal assessments to guide preliminary design architecture, developing detailed analytical models using CFD and FEA tools to mature prototype designs, and generating predictions to support hardware testing and validation.
Key responsibilities:
- Execute hand calculations, spreadsheet models, and MATLAB/Python scripts to perform rapid first-order thermal assessments before detailed analysis
- Develop and maintain CFD models (STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Icepak, Flotherm) and integrated FEMs to predict temperatures, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
- Perform test-model correlation studies to validate analytical predictions against experimental data
- Collaborate with environmental test engineers on test design, instrumentation, execution, and data processing
- Prepare technical reports presenting findings to internal teams, management, and external customers
- Stay current with advancements in thermal analysis techniques, materials technology, and industry standards
The Test and Analysis team uses a fused approach combining analytical modeling (including specialized structural-thermal-optical performance analysis) with strategic engineering validation to identify product robustness opportunities and implement solutions efficiently.
Required qualifications:
- MS or higher degree in engineering or applied physics with focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- 7+ years of thermal analysis or thermo-physics analysis experience
- Proficiency with thermal FEA tools (STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Icepak, or Flotherm)
- Experience with MATLAB or Python for analytical modeling, data acquisition, and post-processing
- Demonstrated experience with test-model correlation and test-based characterization of critical modeling parameters
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Self-starting, results-oriented mindset in dynamic environments
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
