The Senior Test Engineer role is a hands-on individual contributor within the Test Engineering team, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive automated test suites that protect the quality of HeartFlow's regulated Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products. Working under technical direction from the Test Architect, this role owns end-to-end system testing across the entire product pipeline—from ML/AI algorithms and clinical computation services through the Workstation, web applications, and reporting layers—while maintaining the rigor required in a medical device environment.
Key responsibilities include: designing and implementing E2E automated test suites using modern frameworks (Selenium, Playwright) that exercise complete user workflows across UI, API, and back-end services; championing an AI-first automation strategy with AI-assisted authoring and intelligent triage; building baseline daily smoke and build-acceptance tests covering core workflows; leading post-deployment testing including production verification and continuous validation; designing golden-dataset regression tests for ML pipeline services; building automated coverage for WebGL-based 3D viewers and clinical UIs with visual regression testing; authoring traceable test plans and protocols meeting QMS standards; performing tool validation; collaborating with engineering teams on API-level and integration tests (REST Assured, Postman, Karate) including DICOM and HL7 validation; triaging and root-causing failures in complex distributed systems; contributing to CI/CD pipelines; supporting regulatory audits and submissions; coordinating offshore/contractor test engineers; and mentoring junior test engineers as the team scales.
The ideal candidate brings 5–8 years of software test engineering, SDET, or quality engineering experience with strong hands-on automation expertise, direct experience testing SaMD products in regulated environments, deep proficiency in Selenium and Playwright, familiarity with QMS and medical device standards, experience with API testing frameworks, and a track record of shipping high-quality software in regulated contexts.
