Salary: USD 146,000 - 194,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to partner with the Intelligence Systems Engineering team to generate and maintain engineering and developer-focused technical documentation. The role is foundational in setting the tone and quality bar for written artifacts across the organization.
You will work closely with developers, users, engineers, product management, and business stakeholders across all phases of product development—from ground truth need-finding through execution to field testing and validation. Your mission is to ensure that front-line decision makers have access to exceptionally well-written and presented documentation about Anduril systems, making the process as seamless as possible.
Key responsibilities include:
- Generate, review, and edit user-focused documentation of the highest quality
- Cover full development lifecycle documentation—from planning and design to technical configuration, deployment, and integration
- Work with engineering to ship user-friendly documentation that informs, instructs, and contributes to robust user experience
- Contribute to Anduril's technical writing toolkit, including style guides and documentation lifecycle/review processes
- Build partnerships across the business to understand users and products
- Create various documentation artifacts including compliance documentation, process documentation, user guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and API documentation
This is an opportunity to join a small, startup-like team to help shape Anduril's product documentation experience from the ground up. The role emphasizes that documentation is a key part of the product development process, and you will play a foundational role in establishing quality standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of demonstrated excellence generating technical documentation for various levels of technical audiences and product types
- Technical aptitude: ability to read and interpret software and hardware user documentation for complex technical products and structured certification processes
- Proven clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills for audiences ranging from extremely technical to lay persons
- Mission-first mindset: prioritize customer and mission needs; motivated by opportunity to evolve national and allied defense capabilities
- Adaptability: thrive in unstructured environments; self-starter who can work independently, solve vague technical problems, and drive tasks to completion
- Collaboration and low-ego approach: work closely with engineering staff, subject matter experts, and program management to translate complex concepts
- Passion for excellent documentation and user experience combined with curiosity for new technology
- Basic development proficiency: ability to apply software development best practices to documentation systems
- High level of autonomy and responsibility; ability to manage competing demands and tight deadlines
- Willingness to streamline and augment existing processes using artificial intelligence
- Currently possesses and able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience using, evaluating, and implementing modern software and automation tools for high-volume technical writing
- Toolset proficiency: Docs-as-Code, Sphinx, VS Code, basic command line skills, Git or other source control systems, Adobe Acrobat, MS Office Suite
