Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to join the Program Management Office and drive complex engineering projects for SPARC, the company's first-of-a-kind compact fusion machine. In this role, you will own project execution from inception through completion, developing comprehensive plans for engineering, procurement, and construction of highly engineered process systems. You'll manage SPARC systems through final design while collaborating with cross-functional teams of engineers, scientists, designers, and analysts. Key responsibilities include establishing project milestones and ensuring deliverables meet strict budget and timeline parameters, tracking and reporting progress, facilitating collaboration across the PMO and system leads, and leading implementation of strategic process improvement initiatives. You will lead a matrix team composed of engineers, designers, analysts, procurement specialists, and other stakeholders. This includes managing cost and schedule, driving critical risk-based decisions throughout the project lifecycle, monitoring timelines rigorously to identify and mitigate delays, and keeping stakeholders informed through regular updates. You'll also lead active risk management—identifying risks, developing mitigation plans, and reporting progress to stakeholders. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in an engineering field (minimum) - Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering and project management across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.) - Proven track record managing complex engineering projects with excellent project management and leadership skills - Deep understanding of technical project lifecycles and engineering product life-cycle - Thorough understanding of project management, planning, and scheduling methods and techniques - Experience driving products through phase-gate design reviews (CDR, PDR, FDR, or equivalent) - Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; capacity to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels - Exceptional planning, organizational, and time management skills - Experience with Jira and Confluence - Experience with scheduling tools such as MS Project, P6, or equivalent - Willingness to travel when required or work required nights/weekends/on-call - Ability to perform activities such as typing, stooping, climbing, standing, or sitting for extended periods - Ability to work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics BONUS: - Previous work experience in new product introduction/delivery programs for high-tech components or assemblies - Experience with vendor management of highly engineered complex systems
