In this role, you will own Alpaca's internal infrastructure and developer platform as a product. You will define and evolve the platform maturity strategy, manage intake and multi-quarter roadmaps for Platform & Infrastructure teams, and partner directly with the VP of Engineering to ensure DevOps, Platform, and Infrastructure teams—and customers—know what to prioritize next.
Key responsibilities include:
**Own Infrastructure as a Product**: Define and evolve a platform maturity model with internal customers (Alpaca engineers). Establish a north star around self-serve infrastructure on paved golden paths, enabling any engineer to build, ship, authenticate, observe, and scale services without filing tickets. Own the product definition for Foundational Infrastructure, focusing on cost attribution/chargeback and KPIs that demonstrate platform adoption and ease of consumption (full CI/CD delivery and adoption).
**Build the Rails for Monthly Delivery**: Maintain a living roadmap and central backlog/intake. Surface platform and infrastructure dependencies before they become surprises on other teams' roadmaps. Help teams carve capacity for on-call, support, and upgrades while maximizing discovery and delivery time.
**Drive Platform Maturity**: Work toward 24/7 deployability across open and closed markets globally. Short-term, you will coordinate maintenance windows, runbooks, and market-hours constraints; long-term, the goal is eliminating maintenance windows entirely.
**Make Cost a First-Class Product Surface**: Partner with infrastructure engineering and Finance on attribution, chargeback, and efficiency. Develop technical judgment to understand cost drivers (nodes, databases, pipelines) and optimize accordingly.
**Raise CI/CD and Developer-Platform Adoption**: Drive full CI/CD delivery and adoption as a stated KPI. Partner with DevOps App (ArgoCD, service mesh, API gateway) and Platform teams (AuthX, event streaming, DevEx) to ensure golden paths are used, not just documented.
**Make Infrastructure Portable for Global Scale**: Distinguish what must remain centralized to serve all of Alpaca from what must be packaged and deployable in new markets.
Alpaca is building infrastructure for programmable finance at global scale, expanding to new countries and markets with products that must stay centralized and products that must be deployable in any region. This role exists to ensure infrastructure work has a dedicated product owner focused on platform maturity, CI/CD, cost efficiency, and infrastructure dependencies.
**Requirements:**
- 7+ years as a TPM, technical product manager, or equivalent, with substantial experience owning infrastructure, platform, or developer experience
- Proven track record owning multi-team backlogs, intake, and roadmaps; experience running planning cadences that teams actually use
- Technical fluency to be an equal partner to senior/staff engineers on compute infrastructure, deployment pipelines (CI/CD), data stores, networking, and cost drivers. While production Terraform writing is not required, you must recognize when proposals are hand-wavy
- Ability to get things done without a direct reporting line; demonstrated influence on platform adoption across many teams
- Ability to write and operate with crisp scope, clearly defining what the role owns and does not own while leaving no gaps
- Experience working in market-hours-sensitive or regulated production environments, or similar domains where deploy windows, change risk, and customer trust are real constraints
- Demonstrated use of AI and automation to remove program toil rather than add tooling
**Nice-to-Haves:**
- Experience standing up a platform-maturity model, paved-path program, or internal developer platform
- Track record of eliminating or dramatically reducing maintenance windows or change-freeze culture in a production organization
- Multi-region or multi-entity infrastructure experience; ability to package a platform so new regions or booking centers can be stood up without a hero project
- Background in capital markets, brokerage, or other FinTech infrastructure
