Juniper Square is seeking a Senior Technical Lead to architect and oversee development of high-performance backend systems and distributed applications for the private markets finance platform. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership of a cross-functional engineering team.
You will lead the design and architecture of complex backend systems, mission-critical APIs, and distributed services. Responsibilities include providing hands-on technical guidance to engineers, defining coding standards, conducting code reviews, and owning end-to-end delivery from feasibility through deployment and maintenance.
Key technical focus areas: architect and implement backend services using Python/FastAPI (preferred) or Java; design scalable RESTful and GraphQL APIs with emphasis on performance, security, and maintainability; build asynchronous task pipelines and microservices using Celery, RabbitMQ, Redis, or equivalent message brokers; design efficient database schemas (PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL); deploy and optimize systems on AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM); implement CI/CD processes and automated pipelines; use Docker and Kubernetes for microservice orchestration; ensure observability through logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing.
You will lead architectural discussions on scalability, distributed systems, caching strategies, API design, and event-driven patterns. You'll drive technology decisions and ensure adherence to security best practices and compliance standards.
Required: 10–13 years of backend engineering experience with 3+ years in a technical leadership role. Strong expertise in Python (FastAPI preferred) or Java, REST & GraphQL API development, async processing (Celery), AWS cloud services, Docker, Kubernetes, microservices architectures, distributed systems, SQL/NoSQL databases, and CI/CD pipelines. Nice-to-have: ReactJS and TypeScript frontend experience, event-driven systems (Kafka, SNS/SQS), domain-driven design, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation), and AWS performance tuning.
