Stay22 is a Montreal-based platform that helps creators and digital platforms monetize their traffic. The company serves 6,500+ creators with over $1 billion in annual transactions, operating across travel, retail, lifestyle, publishing, events, and transport.
You will lead a high-performing engineering team managing 2 squads with 5-8 developers across diverse product and platform initiatives. This is a hands-on manager role where you balance people leadership, strategic direction, and technical contribution. Approximately 20% of your time will involve code reviews, architecture discussions, and developing small features or fixes—critical for maintaining credibility and mentoring engineers on specialized technical challenges.
Working closely with Product Management, you'll translate an ambitious roadmap into actionable plans and guide your team to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions. You report directly to the Head of Engineering and serve as a key member of the engineering leadership team, responsible for coaching and growing engineers, unblocking complex technical challenges, and ensuring platform services are robust, scalable, and high quality.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and managing a high-performing engineering team with a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Adapting leadership style to support diverse technical profiles, including systems specialists and full-stack product engineers focused on AI applications
- Leading Agile ceremonies and continuously improving team workflows, communication, and productivity
- Identifying and championing innovation opportunities, from concept through implementation
- Supervising development of automated Python pipelines on GCP, including large language model applications for video content analysis and affiliate opportunity identification
- Guiding integrations with social platform APIs for programmatic video content, metadata, and transcript updates
- Designing and overseeing seamless user-facing workflows for social integrations (account linking, analytics review, content management)
- Overseeing end-to-end project execution with timely delivery of high-quality features aligned to business goals
- Setting technical direction for browser-level infrastructure and leading architecture reviews for script lifecycle, DOM automation, and iframe strategies
- Leading critical technology decisions on privacy-conscious browser fingerprinting, session management, and user identification systems
- Ensuring health and scalability of core services through testing, monitoring, alerting, technical debt management, and performance improvements
- Remaining actively involved in the codebase through code reviews, architectural guidance, and occasional critical feature development (~20% of time)
- Collaborating with Product Managers and stakeholders to refine requirements, prioritize roadmaps, and align engineering efforts with business goals
- Acting as main point of contact for senior leadership, communicating project status, technical decisions, team progress, and risks
- Collaborating with other engineering teams to share libraries, platform capabilities, and performance data
Requirements:
- English proficiency required for daily communication with international colleagues and direct reports
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of software development experience, including at least 4+ years in engineering leadership or management role, with track record of delivering complex, scalable, reliable systems
- Strong technical background across both domains:
- Application and AI systems: modern backend development (preferably Python and Node.js), cloud platforms (GCP), building and deploying AI/ML solutions (especially large language models), third-party API integrations
- Low-level web and browser technologies: deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, browser performance optimization, DOM manipulation, browser security models, networking protocols
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop diverse engineering teams, supporting growth of developers with different specializations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with cross-functional collaboration ability and capacity to translate complex technical details into clear, actionable insights
- Creative and pragmatic problem-solving skills with ability to make sound architectural decisions balancing immediate product needs with long-term platform health and scalability
- Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical involvement with high-level leadership and accountability for outcomes
- Experience in fast-paced, agile startup or scale-up environment is highly valued
