Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming grazing management through autonomous livestock technology. The company is backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC, and operates across multiple jurisdictions with rapid international expansion underway. This is Halter's first in-house tax hire, and you will own the tax function end-to-end across the growing global organization. You'll join the Group Reporting team and take ownership of tax governance, compliance, and strategy across every jurisdiction Halter operates in and plans to enter. While the finance team handles day-to-day mechanics and external advisors provide specialist support, you will set direction, own risk, review all tax positions before they go out the door, and ensure the system scales as the company enters new markets. Key responsibilities include: - Owning the group's tax compliance calendar across all jurisdictions, managing income tax provisions and tax notes for group reporting - Building and running Halter's tax governance framework, including risk management, controls, policies, and documentation - Owning the group's transfer pricing policy and documentation in partnership with Legal - Leading the tax workstream for new market entry, from structuring and registrations through permanent establishment, indirect tax, and customs considerations - Managing external advisors worldwide and serving as the point of contact for tax authorities - Advising the business on tax aspects of employee equity, cross-border employees, remuneration, and R&D tax credits - Briefing senior leaders on tax risk, exposure, and strategy in plain language - Improving tax processes, systems, and data to enable scaling without proportional headcount growth You'll be the go-to tax advisor across the business, partnering with finance, legal, people, and commercial teams. This is not primarily a returns-preparation role; it's about governance, strategy, and building a function fit for a fast-scaling company. You'll need to get hands-on when required to ensure things are done right. Halter operates with an office-first culture emphasizing in-person connection and high-trust flexibility. The company offers unlimited paid annual leave, wellness leave, 6 months fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, a $1,000 annual self-development budget, and an employee stock ownership plan. REQUIREMENTS: - Significant tax experience as a trusted senior advisor in professional services or in-house environment - Chartered Accountant or equivalent tax qualification - Tax generalist background comfortable across corporate income tax, indirect tax, employment taxes, and transfer pricing - Experience with international groups or global tax exposure, including multi-jurisdictional operations - Strong project management skills with track record of running multiple workstreams, advisors, and deadlines - Confidence engaging with senior leaders and translating technical tax positions into clear commercial recommendations - Experience building or materially uplifting tax governance, controls, and risk frameworks BONUS EXPERIENCE: - US GAAP reporting group experience or hands-on income tax provisioning under ASC 740 - Rapid international expansion and setting up tax in new markets from scratch - Tax on employee share schemes across borders - Hardware or products that physically cross borders, with customs and indirect tax experience
