Saronic Technologies is seeking a Senior Systems Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize software systems for autonomous surface vessels used in maritime defense operations. This role sits at the intersection of embedded systems, autonomous robotics, and maritime technology.
You will design and implement robust software systems using NixOS for autonomous navigation, control, and communication of surface vessels. Key responsibilities include collaborating with hardware engineers to integrate software with vessel systems, implementing control algorithms and sensor fusion, optimizing network communications for low-bandwidth/high-latency maritime environments, and conducting rigorous testing and validation in real-world conditions.
The role requires strong embedded systems expertise, particularly with Linux-based platforms, low-level serial protocols (RS-232, CAN), and networking principles (TCP/IP, UDP). You'll troubleshoot complex software issues, maintain high coding standards through code reviews, and document designs for compliance and knowledge sharing. Staying current with autonomous systems trends and best practices is expected.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. Senior-level candidates need 3+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in autonomous systems or robotics. Staff-level candidates need 8+ years including architecture, cross-functional leadership, or platform ownership in autonomy/robotics/embedded systems. Proficiency in C/C++ or Rust is required. Familiarity with sensors, control systems, maritime operations, and DoD standards is advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment are essential.
Saronic offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance (company pays 100% of employee premiums, 80% of dependents), generous PTO, paid parental leave, 401(k), stock options, and office perks including free lunch and unlimited beverages.
