BETA Technologies is revolutionizing electric aviation and seeks a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to lead safety assessment and certification efforts for advanced aircraft systems. In this role, you will plan and execute comprehensive safety assessment processes for BETA's electric aircraft and components, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure designs meet safety and certifiability standards.
Key responsibilities include: conducting functional hazard assessments, fault tree analyses, and preliminary/system safety assessments following ARP4754A and SAE ARP4761 guidelines; establishing failure rates for novel aviation components; developing and validating safety requirements; performing zonal safety analyses, particular risk analyses, common mode analyses, and failure mode and effects analyses; allocating development assurance levels; evaluating in-service events and issues; interfacing with FAA regulators to ensure compliance; and mentoring junior safety engineers.
You will work with an interdisciplinary team to understand aircraft system physics, architecture, and interfaces, translating complex technical concepts into actionable safety strategies. The role requires deep expertise in commercial aviation certification processes and the ability to navigate multiple certification standards (Part 23, 25, 27, 33).
Minimum qualifications: engineering degree in a relevant discipline; 5+ years of systems safety assessment experience for commercial aviation; proficiency with FHA, FTA, PSSA, SSA, ZSA, PRA, CMA, and FMEA methodologies; experience with development assurance level allocation; and demonstrated capability in safety requirements generation, validation, and verification.
Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of aviation safety experience, including multiple full certification cycles; exposure to new programs and design modifications; FAA interface experience; systems engineering background; electric aircraft program experience; expertise with complex airborne electronic hardware and software safety; HIRF and lightning safety assessment skills; familiarity with CAFTA tools and reliability engineering methods (MSG-3); and experience with product lifecycle management systems like Polarion.
