As Senior Systems & Safety Engineer – Hardware, you will lead the safety architecture, reliability engineering, and functional safety compliance for Gatik's autonomous vehicle hardware stack. This includes the AV compute platform, sensor suite (LiDAR, Radar, Cameras, IMUs), power distribution units, and networking backbones. You will ensure the hardware withstands severe thermal, vibration, and component failure conditions while maintaining safe autonomous operation in rigorous commercial environments.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct hardware functional safety activities including FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis), PMHF (Probabilistic Metric for random Hardware Failures), and Single Point Fault Metrics (SPFM).
• Evaluate, select, and qualify automotive-grade compute, sensor, and power hardware from Tier-1 suppliers, ensuring compliance with AEC-Q100/200 and ASIL ratings.
• Define hardware requirements for compliance and system safety across the autonomous vehicle platform.
• Design test methodologies for hardware fault injection to validate diagnostic coverage and fail-operational behavior.
• Generate hardware safety manuals, FMEDA reports, and verification documentation required for safety sign-off and regulatory compliance.
You will work 5 days per week onsite at the Santa Clara, CA office. This role requires deep expertise in ISO 26262 (functional safety for automotive hardware), ISO 16750, SAE J1455, and FMVSS standards. Ideal candidates have 6+ years in hardware safety engineering, electrical architecture, or systems engineering in automotive (Tier-1/OEM) or aerospace industries, with a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automotive Engineering.
