Atoms is building Physical AI—autonomous robots for real-world industries including food production, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, and manufacturing to deploy and scale robotic systems in live environments. As Senior Systems Engineer for Platform Requirements and Interfaces, you will own the system requirements and interface control documents for autonomous vehicle and truck platforms. You will decompose platform-level requirements into subsystem requirements, allocate them across sensing, compute, networks, power, and autonomy software, and establish verification plans with traced evidence. Key responsibilities: - Author and maintain system and subsystem requirements for vehicle and truck platforms, including decomposition, allocation to subsystems, and traceability to verification. - Build and maintain interface control documents between the autonomy kit and vehicle platforms, and between internal subsystems, covering signals, networks, power, timing, mounting, and data. Run review and change processes. - Manage the requirements management toolchain: structure, attributes, baselines, change tracking, and traceability from requirement through design to verification. - Write verification plans including method, test environment (analysis, bench, simulation, closed course, on-vehicle), acceptance criteria, and evidence. Work with test teams on execution and confirm results. - Produce requirements deltas and interface control documents for new vehicle platforms and sensor/compute generations, maintaining commonality across variants. - Support vehicle integration and bring-up; classify failures as requirement, interface, or implementation defects and feed changes back into requirements and interfaces. - Write requirements and interface documentation for engineers, technicians, and partner teams. - Collaborate cross-functionally with vehicle integration, hardware engineering, autonomy/robotics, functional safety, and verification teams. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Systems Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of systems engineering experience. - Experience authoring system requirements for vehicles, robotics, or comparable hardware-software systems, including decomposition, allocation, and traceability to verification. - Experience writing and maintaining interface control documents or equivalent interface specifications between hardware and software subsystems. - Working experience with requirements management tools (Jama, DOORS, Polarion) including configuring structure, attributes, and traceability. - Experience writing verification plans, acceptance criteria, and confirming test results against requirements. - Working knowledge of vehicle networks and interfaces: CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, sensor and compute interfaces, time synchronization. - Experience on autonomous vehicle or robotics platforms. - Experience handling autonomous driving or robotics sensor data across multiple modalities (camera, LiDAR, radar) and timestamps. - Proficiency in Python for data analysis, test automation, and tooling; ability to read C++. - Experience working where requirements and platforms were still changing. - Strong written communication covering system requirements, interface specifications, and verification reports. - Ability to work onsite five days a week in San Francisco.
