Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer II to lead mission architecture and formulation for new satellite systems, supporting business development and opportunity capture across civil, national security, and commercial sectors. Based at Rocket Lab's Long Beach headquarters, you will own the technical strategy and execution for spacecraft development programs.
Key responsibilities include leading satellite engineering formulation to support business development; developing and maintaining technical budgets for vehicle performance, system requirements, verification techniques, simulations, and test methods; leading technical development of spacecraft missions from concept through design; collaborating on interface specifications, CONOPS definition, and design documentation; and working directly with customers and internal leadership to shape requirements and architect proposals.
You will support the VP of Business Development and Strategy, delivering technical content for internal leadership, board presentations, and investor materials. The role bridges engineering excellence with business strategy, requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to communicate complex spacecraft architectures to non-technical stakeholders.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, software, computer, or related discipline); 8+ years in aerospace industry; experience supporting satellite/spacecraft development programs; active TS/SCI security clearance.
Desirable qualifications include Master's or PhD in engineering; expertise in spacecraft subsystems (ADCS, EPS, communications, C&DH, thermal control); understanding of orbital mechanics and space environment; proposal and technical volume writing experience; proficiency in MATLAB, Python, STK, CAD tools; experience with requirements management tools (JAMA, DOORS); satellite operations background; ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments with competing priorities.
