Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer II to join the Space Systems division in Long Beach, CA. This role supports the development of spacecraft, payloads, and subsystems for civil, commercial, and defense missions, including work with NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
You will own the technical development of spacecraft missions across the full systems engineering lifecycle. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining technical budgets for vehicle performance, defining system requirements and verification techniques, creating simulations and analysis across vehicle functions, and developing test methods with associated data analysis. You'll lead and own technical development of spacecraft missions, assist with program and product management, and collaborate with team members on interface specifications, CONOPS definition, and design documentation.
The role requires hands-on work with flight hardware and direct involvement in the technical development process. You'll work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment supporting some of the most ambitious space missions, from lunar and Martian exploration to national security initiatives.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, software, computer, or related discipline), 8+ years of aerospace industry experience, experience supporting satellite or spacecraft development programs, and U.S. citizenship.
Desirable qualifications include Master's or PhD in engineering, active TS/SCI clearance, deep understanding of spacecraft subsystems (ADCS, EPS, C&DH, thermal control), orbital mechanics and rigid body dynamics knowledge, proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and STK, experience with requirement management tools (JAMA, DOORS), satellite operations experience, and testing experience (thermal vacuum, vibration, HITL).
