Flexport is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in Identity and Access Management (IAM) to design, implement, and administer IAM solutions that ensure secure and efficient user lifecycle management across the organization.
In this role, you will serve as the resident Okta expert while functioning as a high-level IT generalist. You will oversee Flexport's broader SaaS ecosystem including Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, and Confluence, as well as endpoint management infrastructure using Jamf for macOS and Microsoft Intune for Windows devices. Your expertise will drive automation, protect sensitive data, mitigate security risks, and maintain compliance in a heavily regulated industry.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and maintaining end-to-end IAM platform lifecycle
- Administering Okta, directory services, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and password management
- Managing core collaboration tools and SaaS applications
- Overseeing global device fleet management across Mac and Windows platforms
- Building automated workflows for provisioning, deprovisioning, and application access using Okta Workflows and scripting
- Establishing role-based access control (RBAC), entitlement reviews, and access certification processes
- Leading technical onboarding of new SaaS applications for Single Sign-On (SSO)
- Collaborating with the Security team to embed security best practices into IT infrastructure
- Authoring technical documentation, engineering roadmaps, and compliance policies
- Providing high-tier technical leadership and escalation support for complex IT operations
You will continually strive toward automation of operational toil. The expectation is that manual tasks should be eliminated through automation within 18 months. Flexport's business is growing rapidly, and technology should enable business growth faster than headcount growth.
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in IAM systems engineering with broad IT infrastructure management
- Deep, hands-on mastery of Okta configuration, policy creation, and application integration
- Strong knowledge of IAM standards: SAML, SCIM, OAuth, OIDC, IGA, RBAC, and LDAP
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) and Okta Workflows
- Proven track record managing Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, Jamf, and Intune
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical engineering experience
- Compliance-first mindset for navigating heavily regulated industry requirements
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with strong collaborative and interpersonal communication skills
