Flexport is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in Identity and Access Management (IAM) to design, implement, and administer IAM solutions that ensure secure and efficient user lifecycle management across the organization.
In this role, you will serve as the resident Okta expert while functioning as a high-level IT generalist. You will oversee the broader SaaS ecosystem including Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, and Confluence, as well as endpoint management infrastructure using Jamf for macOS and Microsoft Intune for Windows devices. Your core responsibilities include designing and maintaining end-to-end IAM platform lifecycles, administering Okta, directory services, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and advanced password management solutions.
Key focus areas include building automated workflows for provisioning and deprovisioning, establishing role-based access control (RBAC) and entitlement review processes, leading technical onboarding of new SaaS applications for Single Sign-On (SSO) integration, and collaborating closely with the Security team to embed security best practices into IT infrastructure. You will author technical operating procedures, engineering roadmaps, and compliance policies while providing high-tier technical leadership and escalation support for complex IT operations.
A core principle of this role is continuous automation of operational toil. The expectation is that manual, repetitive tasks should be automated within 18 months; if you find yourself performing the same operational tasks after that period, process improvement is needed. Flexport's business is growing rapidly, and technology automation will be critical to scaling the business faster than headcount.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of IAM systems engineering experience paired with broad IT infrastructure management, deep hands-on mastery of Okta configuration and policy creation, strong knowledge of IAM standards (SAML, SCIM, OAuth, OIDC, IGA, RBAC, LDAP), and scripting experience (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) with Okta Workflows. You should have a proven track record managing Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, Jamf, and Intune, hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent practical engineering experience), maintain a compliance-first mindset for regulated industries, and demonstrate excellent problem-solving and collaborative communication skills.
