Cloudflare is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to own identity and access management (IAM) systems at global scale. The IAM team manages the authentication and authorization layer powering Cloudflare's control plane—handling login, SSO, OAuth, API tokens, account membership, roles, permissions, and SCIM provisioning for millions of API calls daily. You will be a hands-on senior engineer working on correctness-critical, high-throughput, highly resilient services. Key responsibilities include designing and building high-throughput, low-latency IAM capabilities for both customer-facing and internal APIs; contributing to the evolution of authentication and authorization systems into modern, distributed, edge-capable architectures; translating product and security requirements into robust APIs and technical specifications; maintaining high engineering standards through code reviews and design documents; owning platform reliability under constant load with strong observability and resilience; and leveraging AI tools throughout your development workflow. Ideal candidates bring 5–8 years building and operating production systems at scale. Strong domain knowledge of identity protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM) and fine-grained authorization systems (RBAC, ABAC, relationship-based access control, policy engines like Cedar) is essential, ideally with hands-on production experience. Proficiency in Go and TypeScript, REST API design, PostgreSQL and Redis, and distributed systems thinking are expected. You should have high standards for correctness and security, be self-directed, and comfortable driving ambiguous problems across team boundaries. Experience with credential management, token lifecycle, or edge computing is a bonus.
