Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer I - Mission Architecture to lead satellite systems formulation and support business development for new civil, national security, and commercial opportunities. Based at Rocket Lab's Long Beach headquarters, you will own the technical architecture for new satellite missions and drive the systems engineering process from concept through validation.
Key responsibilities include leading satellite engineering formulation to capture new business opportunities, developing and maintaining technical budgets for vehicle performance, defining system requirements and verification techniques, creating simulations and analysis across vehicle functions, and developing test methods with associated data analysis. You will lead and own technical development of spacecraft missions, assist with program and product management, and collaborate with team members on interface specifications, CONOPS definitions, and design documentation. You will work directly with customers and internal leadership to shape requirements and author core architecture for key proposals.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in engineering (software, computer, electrical, aerospace, mechanical, or related discipline), 5+ years of aerospace industry experience, background supporting satellite and/or spacecraft development programs, and an active TS/SCI security clearance.
Desirable qualifications include a Master's or PhD in engineering, deep understanding of spacecraft subsystems (ADCS, EPS, communications, C&DH, thermal control), knowledge of space environment and orbital mechanics, strong communication skills, proposal and technical volume authorship experience, proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and STK, CAD modeling experience, familiarity with requirement management tools (JAMA, DOORS), and satellite operations background.
