Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer I to join the Space Systems division in Long Beach, CA. This role supports the development of spacecraft, payloads, and subsystems for civil, commercial, and defense missions, including work with NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force. In this position, you will own the technical development of spacecraft missions and lead systems engineering activities across cutting-edge space programs. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining technical budgets for vehicle performance, defining system requirements and verification techniques, creating simulations and analysis across vehicle functions, and planning/executing test methods with data analysis. You'll work hands-on with flight hardware, collaborate on interface specifications and CONOPS definition, and assist with program and product management. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, software, computer, or related discipline), 5+ years of aerospace industry experience, and direct experience supporting satellite or spacecraft development programs. U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements. Desirable qualifications include a Master's or PhD in engineering, active TS/SCI security clearance, deep understanding of spacecraft subsystems (ADCS, EPS, C&DH, thermal control), knowledge of orbital mechanics and rigid body dynamics, proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and STK, experience with requirement management tools (JAMA, DOORS), satellite operations experience, and hands-on testing experience with electrical subsystems, thermal vacuum, random vibration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. The role requires the ability to work in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and may involve prolonged periods of computer work with occasional exposure to production environments.
