Relativity Space is building Terran R, a 3D-printed rocket designed to deliver payloads to orbit. The Structures and Mechanisms team owns the full design, build, and test lifecycle of the rocket's integrated structures and flight mechanisms.
As a Senior Structures Engineer, you will lead the conceptualization, design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing of primary and secondary structures including thrust structures, propellant tanks, interstages, and fairings. You'll work across the full design cycle, from initial concept through flight qualification, with hands-on hardware ownership and visibility into manufacturing and testing on the factory floor.
Key responsibilities include:
- Innovative conceptualization of structural load paths and design for complex structures with adjacent system packaging
- Review of static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, test data, and structural systems/subsystems requirements
- Analysis and sizing of flight structures using tools like NX/TeamCenter, Nastran, and ANSYS to support design reviews and drawing release
- Development and support of hardware test campaigns, including test integration, operation, and result evaluation
- Support for manufacturing process development, with focus on reducing mass, parts, processes, and tooling
You will work weekly on designing flight components, performing structural analysis, creating and releasing engineering drawings, and supporting fabrication. The role requires self-motivation, adaptability, and the ability to lead projects to completion in a fast-paced environment. Significant mechanical or structural design experience and a proven track record of completing collaborative projects effectively are essential.
