Pacific Fusion, founded in 2023 and backed by over $900M in funding, is building a pulser-driven inertial fusion system to achieve net facility gain and deliver abundant, affordable, clean energy. The company is rapidly scaling and seeking a Senior Structures Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and validation of critical mechanical and structural systems for installation, commissioning, and operations of fusion systems.
In this role, you will drive innovative designs for specialized tools and equipment required for installation, maintenance, heavy-lift operations, and high-precision alignment of large fusion machine components. You'll design temporary support structures including frames, fixtures, falsework, scaffolding, and temporary hoists for fusion machine installation and erection. A key responsibility is owning structural interfaces between the fusion machine and civil facility, including foundation embedments, anchorages, and load-distribution steelwork.
You will design and analyze seismic restraint systems and vibration isolation mounts to protect high-precision, high-mass components, and develop test stands with load-proofing protocols to validate custom lifting and handling equipment. The role includes providing structural engineering support and detailed mechanical analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for various mechanical design scopes and high-load systems. You'll design permanent and temporary platforms, access structures, and related components while ensuring all designs adhere to relevant codes and standards including ASME BTH-1, ASME B30.20, ASCE 37, and OSHA requirements.
Collaboration is essential—you'll work closely with contractors, vendors, manufacturers, and multidisciplinary teams including construction and civil groups to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and seamlessly integrated with facility requirements.
