Salary: USD 146,000 - 194,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Structures Engineer to join the Maneuver Dominance Team at their Costa Mesa headquarters. This role focuses on new aircraft development within a lean, high-ownership culture where engineers directly shape products and operate at velocity to fly new designs within months.
Key responsibilities include performing static and dynamic structural analyses of composites and metallics using first principles and appropriate methods (hand calculations, spreadsheets, scripts, detailed FEA); developing and owning FEM creation and organization at global and subsystem levels; collaborating with hardware engineers to drive proper designs based on analytical results; documenting analysis methodology and results in technical reports for internal teams and external stakeholders; conducting and supporting validation testing including instrumentation, load requirements, data collection, and model correlation; participating in flight testing including setting Do No Exceed values, monitoring loads, and dispositioning inspection findings; ensuring designs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations; and staying current with advancements in analysis techniques, materials technology, and industry standards.
Required qualifications include a BS or higher degree in engineering or applied physics with a focus in structures; deep understanding of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and materials properties; structural testing experience (static, buckling, cyclic) including sensor selection, data acquisition, and data post-processing; proficiency in FEA software (ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN) for linear and non-linear static and buckling analyses; experience with CAD tools (NX, Solidworks); proficiency in Matlab or Python for developing analytical models, data acquisition, and automation; ability to work autonomously and self-start; strong organizational skills and ability to establish scope for ill-defined problems; and ability to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of experience in structures, dynamics, or loads roles with high ownership; MS or higher degree in engineering or applied physics with structures focus; experience with high cycle fatigue and/or turbomachinery; and ability to develop workflow automation tools.
