Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Structural Mechanical Engineer to serve as an expert in structural mechanics across multiple projects, including SPARC, ARC, and other R&D initiatives. The company is the world's largest fusion energy startup, having raised $4 billion since 2018 and focused on designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. In this role, you will leverage deep expertise in structural analysis, mechanical design, and materials science to support the engineering teams developing next-generation fusion reactor technology. You will work on complex structural challenges inherent to fusion systems, including extreme operating conditions, novel materials, and integrated mechanical-thermal-electromagnetic interactions. Key responsibilities include conducting advanced structural analysis and finite element modeling, designing mechanical components and systems for fusion reactors, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, thermal, controls), reviewing and validating designs against performance and safety requirements, and contributing to technical documentation and design specifications. This is an individual contributor role at the senior level, where you will be expected to guide and mentor junior engineers while maintaining hands-on technical depth. You will work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment focused on accelerating the transition to fusion energy as a viable commercial power source.
