Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company's flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases, capable of running for up to 5 years without refueling. Founded in 2020, Radiant is preparing for its first reactor test at Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries expected in 2028.
As Senior Structures Engineer, you will own the design and development of critical concrete and precast structural systems supporting Radiant's manufacturing and deployment infrastructure. This is a high-impact role solving unique engineering challenges: creating efficient, reliable concrete structures that survive extreme thermal and seismic environments while meeting site and program constraints.
Key responsibilities include: ownership of spent fuel dry cask storage systems, factory and facility foundations, and precast concrete elements; conducting trade studies and developing designs for static, thermal, and seismic loading conditions; performing detailed structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element tools (Abaqus, Ansys, SAP2000); developing and executing construction, fabrication, and test plans; creating and managing bills of materials; finding and developing suppliers and fabricators; owning subassembly design, fabrication, and test schedules; conducting risk analysis (FMEA) for concrete structural subsystems; and collaborating with engineers across functional areas.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering; 5+ years designing concrete or reinforced concrete structures; 4+ years performing structural analysis using both hand calculations and FEA tools.
Desired qualifications include: active PE license; experience with ACI 318 or similar codes; precast concrete systems design; dry cask storage or spent nuclear fuel storage design; seismic design/qualification; nuclear or critical-facility structural design; experience with fabricated and deployed hardware; thermal expansion expertise; interdisciplinary team collaboration; GD&T and construction tolerancing knowledge; proficiency with text-based software development tools.
The role requires 100% onsite work at El Segundo headquarters and willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
