Rocket Lab's Optical Systems division, based in Chantilly, VA, is seeking a Senior Structural Analyst I or II to support advanced space payload and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) programs for Department of Defense and Intelligence Community customers. This role is part of the Space Systems team, which has enabled over 1,700 missions including interplanetary exploration, in-space manufacturing, and national security initiatives. In this position, you will perform structural analysis of spacecraft components and assemblies using analytical methods and finite element analysis (FEA) tools. Key responsibilities include developing and validating analytical models to predict structural behavior under integration, test, launch, and operational conditions; evaluating static, dynamic, thermal, and fatigue loads to ensure compliance with design requirements and safety margins; and collaborating with design engineers to optimize structures for weight, manufacturability, and performance. You will support the development of test plans, interpret structural test data to correlate and validate analysis models, and prepare technical reports and presentations communicating analysis results. Throughout the product development lifecycle, you will participate in design reviews, provide structural engineering input, and stay current with industry standards and analysis techniques. The role requires investigative and troubleshooting skills to assess issues and develop resolutions, proactive task completion with modest direction, and effective communication with supervisors, project management, customers, and cross-disciplinary team members. Travel as required, including off-site work, is expected. For Senior Structural Analyst I: Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline; 5+ years mechanical structural analysis experience; superior FEA tool proficiency (ANSYS, Femap/NASTRAN, etc.); ability to write clear technical documentation; ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearance. For Senior Structural Analyst II: Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline; 8+ years mechanical structural analysis experience; superior FEA tool proficiency; advanced technical documentation skills; ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearance.
