Amperesand is reinventing power infrastructure for a new era of energy abundance. The company has developed a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging advanced medium-voltage solid-state transformer technology, now ready for commercial deployment. With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, Amperesand is building hardware and software to support modern energy needs for AI factories, electric vehicles, and industrial growth.
As Senior Staff Thermo-Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own the complete thermal system architecture for Amperesand's next-generation medium-voltage solid-state power conversion platform, from concept through mass production. This is a highly hands-on, end-to-end role where thermal performance is a key differentiator.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the complete thermal system from architecture into mass production
- Select and validate the architecture of the next-generation thermal system to meet and exceed product-level requirements
- Perform concept selection for implementation approaches
- Model thermal system performance across operating conditions and mission profiles
- Execute detailed design including CAD and thermal CFD simulation
- Partner with manufacturing and quality teams on design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly activities
- Lead prototyping and validation of the thermal system
- Solve novel technical problems throughout the development lifecycle
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams
You will work on a novel application where thermal design is critical to overall product performance. The role requires deep expertise in thermal system design, system modeling, and detailed design execution, with a track record of independently leading complex technical work and solving problems without established answers. This is not an execution-only role—you will drive architecture decisions and own the thermal strategy.
The role can be based in Reno, San Francisco, or the South Bay area.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep thermal system design expertise and experience
- Proficiency in system modeling and detailed mechanical design
- Hands-on experience with CAD and thermal CFD simulation
- Track record of independently leading complex technical work
- Demonstrated ability to solve novel problems without established answers
- Experience with design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly
- Ability to collaborate across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and quality disciplines
- Experience taking thermal systems from concept through production validation
