SandboxAQ is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the Platform & Infrastructure team, which builds foundational services including compute, storage, networking, and cloud environments that power the company's Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) across life sciences, financial services, cybersecurity, and other sectors.
In this role, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for defining and executing long-term infrastructure vision, designing resilient distributed systems that support rapidly growing AI workloads, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers. You'll partner with engineering leads to diagnose complex technical bottlenecks, break down multifaceted infrastructure challenges into scalable requirements, and drive platform excellence by designing foundational services that improve developer experience and reduce operational overhead.
Key responsibilities include leading architectural strategy for the infrastructure organization, mentoring and developing engineering talent, solving systemic problems through first-principles thinking, designing and implementing platform services, and collaborating cross-functionally with product, research, and security teams to ensure infrastructure is secure, performant, and mission-aligned.
Required qualifications: 10+ years of professional software development with proven track record designing and scaling complex distributed systems; 5+ years leading high-impact engineering teams including mentoring and influencing technical strategy at staff level; expertise in cloud-native infrastructure (GCP preferred) and Kubernetes at scale; expertise in GPU/ML infrastructure for large training, data-generation, and inference workloads including GPU scheduling, optimization, and high-performance networking; strong ability to decompose complex technical problems into simplified, incremental architectural designs.
Highly desired: deep proficiency in architectural patterns for high-throughput, low-latency services; experience in high-growth environments where infrastructure requirements pivot rapidly; experience with multi-tenant systems, data governance, data registries, lineage, and federated access in IP-sensitive environments; experience in regulated/compliance-bound environments with data residency, export controls, SOC2, and strict isolation requirements.
