Gusto is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead iOS platform development and architecture. You'll own the design and implementation of Gusto's iOS app and supporting mobile web views, working on foundational services like push notifications, accessibility, and localization. Your responsibilities include architecting scalable solutions, enhancing mobile infrastructure (build pipelines, testing automation, release processes), developing product features that integrate core business functions and financial products, and collaborating across Product, Identity, Security, Design Systems, and Infrastructure teams.
You'll mentor engineers, advocate for best practices and architecture standards, and leverage AI tools to accelerate delivery. The role involves both greenfield projects and iterative improvements to existing systems, with a focus on creating a seamless mobile experience for over 1M+ monthly active users.
Gusto handles payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR for 500,000+ small businesses. The mobile team is at a pivotal moment, expanding employer experiences on mobile and building solutions that empower small business owners and their employees.
Required: 10+ years Swift/iOS experience, 12+ years mobile software engineering overall. Strong communication, cross-functional partnership skills, self-driven mindset for greenfield work, proficiency in iOS testing frameworks, experience with platform components and scalability patterns, critical thinking, and passion for mentoring.
