The Enterprise Identity team at OpenAI builds the foundational identity infrastructure that enables organizations to securely and reliably adopt and use OpenAI products at scale. The team owns the complete enterprise identity stack, including SSO (single sign-on), SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management), tenant architecture, and identity capabilities across the enterprise admin experience and OpenAI's expanding multi-product portfolio.
You will serve as a hands-on senior technical leader responsible for owning the architecture and long-term evolution of OpenAI's Enterprise Identity systems. This is a company-wide architectural role that goes well beyond a single service or feature. You will set the technical vision for the entire identity stack, establish shared identity primitives that work consistently across products, and be accountable for systems that are foundational to the enterprise business.
Key responsibilities include: owning the technical vision and architecture for the Enterprise Identity stack (SSO, SCIM, tenant architecture, groups, permissions, and enterprise admin surfaces); leading the design and evolution of highly available, latency-sensitive identity systems serving a large and diverse global enterprise customer base; establishing common identity models and primitives that enable organizational scaling; setting a high security bar by anticipating abuse cases and failure modes; driving alignment across enterprise product, infrastructure, and security teams; and providing technical leadership to senior engineers while raising the quality of architecture and execution across the organization.
Ideal candidates have owned the architecture of broad, business-critical platforms or large-scale distributed-systems domains at the senior-staff level; set multi-year technical direction and aligned multiple teams around complex architectural decisions; deep understanding of enterprise identity, enterprise architecture, and the operational needs of large customers in multi-product environments; hands-on experience with SSO, SCIM, identity providers, tenant models, permissions, groups, or adjacent identity infrastructure; a security-minded, adversarial approach to systems design; and the ability to move fluidly between deep technical judgment, organizational influence, and hands-on leadership.
