Affirm is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead technical excellence across core consumer experiences, starting with Marketplace and Search. This is a high-impact role where you'll define technical direction, create long-term technical roadmaps, and drive strategic initiatives across Marketplace, Search, Ads Platform, and App Experiences on iOS, Android, and Web platforms.
You will work closely with engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to champion technical excellence while delivering business results. Key responsibilities include leading the vision for the Marketplace domain (the main pillar of Affirm's core consumer strategy), designing and implementing core platform components, architecting platform decisions, and mentoring a strong group of engineers. You'll guide critical user experiences, drive architectural improvements, and create a culture of ownership and accountability across teams.
The Marketplace domain spans multiple products and areas, from the initial landing page and Search through various product offers and customer journeys. You'll be responsible for building scalable, reliable, and high-performing solutions that unlock large-scale product features and drive the user journey across the Affirm ecosystem.
Required qualifications include 10+ years of full-stack development experience with a track record of leading critical projects across organizational boundaries. You should have extensive experience developing and implementing technical strategy that drove significant improvements in reliability and responsiveness. Previous project management or people management experience is essential—you must know how to influence, communicate effectively, and coach others. Strong ownership mindset, collaborative partnership skills, customer-first thinking, and comfort with ambiguity are critical. You should thrive diving into code and systems to understand dependencies and drive continuous improvement. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience required.
