OneTrust is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to shape technical strategy and architecture across multiple teams and product areas. This is a recognized technical authority role where your decisions on architecture and direction extend well beyond your immediate team.
Your core responsibilities include defining technical direction and architecture for product areas spanning multiple teams, acting independently on significant and unique problems that require evaluating intangible or unprecedented factors, and partnering with Staff and Principal-level peers and Product/UX leadership to align technical roadmap with business strategy. You will build formal cross-group networks and serve as a recognized authority beyond your own team, establish engineering standards that get adopted organization-wide within your domain, and mentor Staff Engineers while contributing to technical leveling and promotion calibration.
You are someone who acts independently on high-ambiguity, high-stakes technical initiatives, and other engineers seek you out before making related decisions. You balance deep technical expertise with the judgment to know when a problem needs broader alignment.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, and expertise with Java and backend application development, including designing, building, and operating distributed systems at scale. You should have a demonstrated track record shaping architecture or technical direction across multiple teams and experience mentoring senior engineers and contributing to technical leveling decisions.
Preferred qualifications include Identity & Access Management (IAM) experience and hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Devin, Windsurf, or similar) in a professional setting, with genuine enthusiasm for applying AI to accelerate and elevate day-to-day engineering work.
