Datadog is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical leader at the forefront of large-scale systems design. This role operates across multiple critical systems and architecture areas, often spanning several teams and product lines.
You will drive the design and delivery of high-scale, high-impact projects from vision to execution in production. Examples include designing distributed data storage engines capable of handling hundreds of millions of records per second, building real-time infrastructure for observability products, or re-architecting core services to support exponential growth in throughput and complexity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning multiple critical systems or architecture areas spanning several teams or product lines
- Driving high-scale, high-impact projects from vision through production delivery
- Building consensus and alignment across stakeholders on architectural decisions and long-term strategy
- Investigating and optimizing performance, reliability, and efficiency in large-scale distributed systems
- Collaborating with Staff Engineers, Directors, and VPs to shape Datadog's technical roadmap
- Guiding teams through ambiguity, scaling challenges, and evolving requirements with clear technical direction
- Mentoring engineers and influencing engineering culture through design reviews, technical talks, and working groups
