Salary: USD 220,000 - 270,000 / annual

As a Senior Staff Engineer on the Agentic Search team, you will own the architecture combining LLMs and retrieval systems to answer complex, ambiguous questions about customer contracts. You'll set technical direction that other engineers across the AI organization build upon, partnering closely with product, applied science, and engineering leaders to raise the company's search quality bar.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and evolve agentic search systems that combine LLMs and retrieval to produce optimal answers to complex questions
- Drive eval-driven development by designing benchmarks and experiments that measure search quality and inform continuous improvements
- Raise the search quality bar and influence company-wide standards
- Own content understanding and ingestion pipelines, turning raw documents into processed data for retrieval systems using NLP/LLM models
- Set technical direction and define architectural decisions that guide the broader AI organization
You'll need 10+ years building production systems, with substantial experience in search, information retrieval, content understanding, or recommendation systems at scale. Demonstrated depth in learned/hybrid retrieval, query understanding/NLU pipelines, or production LLM agent systems is essential. You should have production experience with search frameworks (Elasticsearch, Solr, Vespa, OpenSearch), fluency with modern LLM APIs and multi-provider orchestration, and a track record of building eval-driven workflows. Strong autonomy, ownership, and technical leadership across teams—including mentoring senior engineers—are critical.
