Waabi is seeking a Senior or Staff Research Engineer to lead the development of simulation assets and content systems for autonomous vehicle technology. This role sits at the intersection of AI research and systems engineering, focusing on building the infrastructure and tools that power Waabi's physical AI platform for autonomous trucks and robotaxis.
You will own the design and implementation of simulation asset pipelines, content management systems, and related infrastructure that enables Waabi's research and development teams to rapidly iterate on autonomous driving capabilities. This includes working on data ingestion, asset versioning, simulation environment setup, and tooling that scales across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and building simulation asset and content systems that support research and production autonomous vehicle development
- Collaborating with research scientists, ML engineers, and robotics teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions
- Designing scalable, maintainable systems for managing simulation environments, synthetic data, and training infrastructure
- Contributing to technical strategy and mentoring junior engineers on the team
- Evaluating and integrating third-party tools and frameworks where appropriate
You bring strong software engineering fundamentals, experience building large-scale systems, and ideally familiarity with simulation, robotics, or autonomous systems. You're comfortable working in a fast-moving research environment and can balance technical depth with pragmatic delivery. Experience with C++, Python, or similar systems languages is expected. Background in game engines, physics simulation, or 3D graphics is a plus but not required.
