CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical engineering efforts for advanced satellite and aerospace platforms. In this role, you will direct a team of mechanical engineers responsible for all mechanical aspects of spacecraft, subsystems, and interfaces throughout the full development lifecycle.
You will serve as the responsible mechanical authority for satellite programs, managing the team through all phases from concept definition through on-orbit operations. Key responsibilities include developing robust mechanical designs, defining requirements, conducting architecture trades, performing analysis, overseeing manufacturing and assembly, managing testing and qualification, and providing in-orbit support. Your expertise will span mechanical design, electronics packaging, CAD, mechanical interfaces, thermal architecture, deployable and actuated structures, and environmental qualification of spacecraft.
The role involves close collaboration with guidance/navigation/control (GNC), electrical power systems (EPS), command and data handling (CDH), payload, RF, systems, and assembly/integration/test (AI&T) teams. You will present engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership, and participate in proposal development efforts. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
CesiumAstro develops cutting-edge communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. The Skylark product line focuses on rapid design, build, and test of active phased array antennas (AESA) for terrestrial and airborne applications, spanning high-power ground terminals for missile defense to commercial airline and helicopter connectivity solutions.
The ideal candidate is versatile, proficient in spacecraft mechanical design, and passionate about developing space hardware in a dynamic startup environment. You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State due to export control regulations.
