CesiumAstro is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical engineering team responsible for spacecraft design and development. In this role, you will direct a team of engineers through all phases of satellite development, from concept through on-orbit operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring a team of mechanical engineers
- Developing robust mechanical designs for satellites and space systems
- Managing the full lifecycle of mechanical design: requirements definition, architecture trades, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support
- Serving as the responsible mechanical authority for spacecraft subsystems and interfaces
- Expertise in mechanical design, electronics packaging, CAD, mechanical interfaces, thermal architecture, deployable/actuated structures, and environmental qualification
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including GNC, EPS, CDH, Payload, RF, Systems, and AI&T
- Presenting engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership
- Participating in proposal-writing efforts
The ideal candidate brings versatility and deep proficiency across mechanical design disciplines, with proven experience leading engineering teams in a startup or fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will interface with customers, leadership, and multiple technical teams. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will directly contribute to developing cutting-edge satellite communication systems.
