Form Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and architecture of next-generation iron-air battery systems. This is a high-impact role within the Advanced Product Development team, responsible for architecting cell, module, pack, and support systems that will scale to gigawatt-hour production volumes.
You will own the mechanical design end-to-end, from concept through system verification, making critical trade-offs across thermal, fluid, and structural subsystems. This includes developing first-principles analytical models, leading prototype builds and test campaigns, and setting technical direction for design-for-manufacturing and design-for-cost. You'll represent mechanical engineering in cross-functional reviews with electrochemistry, controls, program management, and compliance teams, while engaging directly with vendors on novel component development.
The role requires deep expertise in thermo-fluid systems, complex electromechanical design, and a proven track record taking products from early-stage concept through manufacturing scale. You should bring 12+ years of experience (or equivalent with advanced degree) in mechanical design of complex systems, with demonstrated system-level architecture ownership across thermal, fluid, and structural interfaces. Experience in energy storage, batteries, or safety-critical hardware industries is highly valued.
You'll operate in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity environment ramping toward production, with the technical leadership capability to mentor engineers and influence direction. Strong ownership mentality, hands-on hardware engagement, and comfort with demanding schedule targets are essential. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, comprehensive benefits including 100% medical/dental/vision premiums for employees, 12-20 weeks paid parental leave, and generous vacation. Relocation assistance is available.
